I'm thinking that the figure "87 deaths per day" is bogus, do you have a link other than to the DB story that is the source of this? I know that the article says "CDC" but I can't find anything from the CDC that backs it up? The compiled gun death stats for the US from the FBI which include homicides, suicides, and accidental shooting are below:

2005 - 10,158 / 365 = 27.8
2006 - 10,225 / 365 = 28
2007 - 10,129 /365 = 27.75
2008 - 9528 /365 = 26.1
2009 - 9199 / 365 = 25.2
2010 - 8775 / 365 = 24

2011 isn't available in compiled format that I can find. What am I missing here, is the Beast author saying that 60 or more gun deaths are unrecorded or unreported in these stats?

re: #1 Randall Gross

Are you going to shop around until you find a source you don't think is "bogus"? DB is a valid mainstream source.

No, I'm asking where the figures come from because I can't find them. I think the author got the math wrong or something, & I don't want you to have egg on your face.

I think the author is conflating "Deaths" with "injuries"

Roll over or tap the interactive map below to see how your state compares, or explore the data in the spreadsheet below. If we missed one, let us know in the comments or at @mhkeller and @BrianAbelson.

Nevermind, it's about 85 - 87 -- that FBI stat line above is just homicides, even though author said it included suicides.
I really wish there were better compilations of these stats - it's just wrong that you have to build your own spreadsheet to figure out "total deaths by guns in the US" etc.

Looking at 2011 it might come out higher than that from the preliminary figures. That's awful.
